Keep Your Eye On Your Own Ball

October 22, 2008 15:48 by Jenn

As a hypnotherapist & business success coach I’ve worked with clients who have suffered from the "they're doing better than me" syndrome.

That's when they focus on other people's business success and feel jealous and bad that they are not as successful.

I remember learning in high school a very valuable lesson about keeping my eye on my own ball. I was in the play Damn Yankees. I was fighting with a friend of mine at the time who was also in the play. I noticed he missed his cue for his part. I was so focused on him and what he had just done that I started looking for him to tell him (in a snotty tone of course) that he had missed his cue. In the process of looking for him guess what happened… I missed my cue! That was an eye opener. I miss out on my own experience focusing on his.

What I tell my clients is that everyone has different power peaks in their life and in their business.  Everyone has different strength and challenges. When you glimpse at someone else's success and compare yourself to them you are seeing it out of context. What you are not seeing is their hard work, their struggles and the things that stress them out - just the success.

Our attention is energy and whatever we put positive attention on thrives. So keep your eye on your own ball.

They say that time is money, so spend your time focusing on YOUR success and YOUR learning curves and you will have more success in your business!

The question to ask yourself is where are you missing your cue focusing on other people’s success instead of yours - and adjust accordingly :)

Catching The Time Wasters - What I Learned From My Socks Today!

October 19, 2008 23:26 by Jenn

As an entrepreneur you have to be constantly studying yourself. You are the woman in the lab coat taking notes and the little cute furry mouse running through the maze.

It's a constant process of learning and correcting. This takes diligence and a sense of humor.

I had to laugh at myself today, I realized that although I have been very focused on how to leverage my time in my business there are places in my daily life that suck my time.

Every morning I find myself looking through my sock drawer for a pair of socks. My socks although I buy them as a couple they tend to split up and move to other parts of the drawer the house or even the last place I traveled.

So today the part of my brain that I have been training to be leveraged with my time in my business was appalled at the time I waste fishing for socks in the morning.  It said very gently "Jenn today you will go to the store buy new socks, throw all socks that are single away, pair up the ones you want to keep and reconcile your sock drawer"

So that's just what I did. I reconciled my sock drawer! When I go to get socks tomorrow morning I will just open the drawer and pull out a pair in seconds.

Imagine what life would be like if all the little time wasters were caught and corrected. Doesn't that sound good.

Well here's your assignment if you choose to take it. Bust one time waster this week and tell me how it went :)
